Spotlight Saturday: Rose Montague

Welcome to Kira Adams' Spotlight Saturday! Every week I will be featuring a different author in the industry. Indie, trad, small press, etc. The point is to help get the word out about new authors and books they are releasing. Maybe you will find your next favorite author. Maybe you will find a story that will touch your soul. Maybe you will participate in the giveaway in hopes of winning a prize. Whatever the case may be, thank you for being here.

This weeks featured author is Rose Montague.

What inspired you to begin writing?

One of my hobbies was as an advocate for those I felt were falsely accused or wrongfully convicted and I was very active on the blogs and discussion boards for a few years. At some point I realized that in a matter of just three years I had written over a million words on this topic, in my spare time, and without even trying. I have always been a big reader and I just felt I didn't have the time to write. This realization changed that, and I managed to write my first book in my spare time.

Who are your favorite authors?

I write urban fantasy and that is also my favorite genre to read in.  I love the Dresden books by Jim Butcher. Ilona Andrews, Faith Hunter, Charlaine Harris, and Patricia Briggs are all awesome. I also read and write in the young adult genre and I am not ashamed to say I loved both Twilight and Hunger Games.

What has been your biggest accomplishment since publishing?

I started out with my first book published by a small press. That was exciting, but I think when I self-published my first book that gave me even more of a sense of accomplishment.

4 LOLs, 5 WTFs, & 6 OMGs Surprises, plot twists, & shockers keep coming ♥ (From Jade - Book One in the Three J'amigos series)

Meet Jade Smith, a magical mutt with a mission. A detective partnered with a shifter named Rolfe, she’s on the case to solve a slew of murders: Vamps are killing humans, and nobody knows why. When London Jane, the most powerful vamp in town, is implicated in the murders, Jade knows something isn’t right. Together with Jill, the Winter Queen of Faerie, Jade and Jane take their investigation underground. On the run, with nowhere to hide, they uncover a secret that could destroy Faerie, as well as the human realm. Will Jade stop the killer in time? Or will she be the next victim?

Magic, mayhem, and mystery abound, and the odds are stacked against them; it’s three against three hundred.

Rose Montague is the author of The Three J'amigos (Jade, Jane, & Jill) series as well as the Norma Jean's School of Witchery series (Jewel & Ghost School). Rose has worked in several libraries and book stores and currently lives in Elon, NC.

Her books feature kick-but female heroines, supernatural creatures of all kinds, non-stop action, a good bit of humor, and a light touch of romance.

The Lover and the Liar

It's been awhile...but what else is new.

I feel like my life is in shambles, when in reality things are going really well. I have a very good job, and I kick-ass at it. I love my job, but it's everything outside of my job I need to work on.

I've been having trouble writing lately because I'm 31 years old, and I'm worried if I don't focus on finding the person I want to spend the rest of my life with, I won't.

The problem is that I'm kind of a hermit and don't really enjoy going out to bars or clubs anymore. Maybe when I was 21.

Online dating has not been going so well either. Is it so difficult to find someone who genuinely has their head on their shoulders? Has a job, a car, and a place of their own or with roommates? It cannot be this difficult.

I am trying to be more social in general though. Attending poker nights, onesie parties, our Holiday ugly sweater party, etc. I don't anticipate to meet anyone at any of those, but it will still get me out of the house.

The next few weeks are going to be kinda crazy for me. On Monday, I have a new intern starting. On Tuesday, a second intern will begin.

On Wednesday night, I'm taking a red eye with my coworker at midnight to New York. I am so excited, anxious, nervous. I've never been, and even though we will only have maybe 2-3 hours to explore anything. Apart from that, we will be producing a Gotham Themed Event equipped with a Two-Face Dj, Poison Ivy Greeter, Batman/Catwoman servers, Riddler and Harley Quinn servers and a Joker Magician. It's going to be a lot of fun. I am really excited for all of it.

I'll be in New York for a whirlwind 48 hours and then I will be headed back to Vegas on Saturday morning. The following week, I will be headed to San Francisco on the 15th. Quick trip again, no more than 24 hours. That one is a Studio 54 theme. Before that however, we have our third intern starting on the 12th. We are growing quickly.

When I come back, I'll be home for about a week before I am headed back to Oregon for my Christmas vacation. I'll be in Oregon for five days, and then I will be jetting back home on the 27th. And then it's freaking New Years. This year flew by. Every year that passes does so faster than I can imagine. I'm really running out of time and freaking out a little about it.

One thing that's happened a couple of times recently is I've been told that I need to do stand-up comedy. I don't think I'm that funny, but apparently the way I tell stories is very animated. I feel like it's been this way my entire life, I just figured people laughed cause they were uncomfortable. Haha. I figure I will try to write down some of my stories/memories and recite them to people and see if they laugh and go from there.

I know I am jumping all over the place, but I am really proud of myself. I need to pay off some credit card debt so that it will eventually allow for a car payment. In the last 2 months, I've paid off 3 cards totaling $1550. Right now, that only frees up about $75/month - but I am getting there. I've been really diligent in putting down payments whenever I can. I am working towards getting a new car and renting a house all in the same month/time - May. That gives me five months to free up more money. Ideally, I'd like to pay off another 3 cards by then. With the way things have been going, I don't see that being a problem.

I've been writing down my wants and desires. I know it's best to speak things into existence. I'm anxious to see how it goes.

Release Blitz: Wicked Beginnings by L.A. Cotton

  Wicked Beginnings (Wicked Bay #1)

The first book in a brand new YA/NA crossover series from the author who brought you Chastity Falls

When seventeen-year-old Eloise Stone finds herself half way across the world, moving into her Uncle's pool house, she expects things to be ... awkward. She doesn't expect to come face-to-face with the boy from last summer. The boy that made her feel things she'd never felt before. But a year is a long time, and Lo isn’t the same girl she was then. Besides, they’re family now.

It’s weird.

Maverick Prince acts as if he doesn’t remember her, treating Lo like nothing more than an annoying younger sister, and not in a ‘he cares’ way, just in a ‘he’s an arsehole’ way. One thing‘s for sure, he isn’t just dangerous for her sanity—he’s hazardous for her heart.

Lo thought moving to Wicked Bay was the worst of her problems, but as life begins to unravel around her, she’s going to find out it’s only the beginning…

To celebrate the release of WICKED BEGINNINGS, L A Cotton is giving away a Kindle Fire 7 and a $25 Amazon Giftcard.

Author of mature young adult and new adult novels, L A is happiest writing the kind of books she loves to read: addictive stories full of teenage angst, tension, twists and turns.

Home is a small town in the middle of England where she currently juggles being a full-time writer with being a mother/referee to two little people. In her spare time (and when she’s not camped out in front of the laptop) you’ll most likely find L A immersed in a book, escaping the chaos that is life.

I Can Be Your John Cusak

One of my exes is having a baby with one of my friends. Not just any baby, twins. And I'm not jealous, I'm happy for them! They deserve it. But it really makes me think...

One of my other exes is married to someone with the same name as me, and they also have a happy family. He deserves it more than anyone I know.

A third ex got karma handed to him on a platter, and then he bounced back better than ever and is married with a new baby. I always root for him even though he did me dirty.

But, it's been 8 years now. I'm ready to meet someone. I'm ready to be happy too. I feel like I've done a lot of good to make up for the bad I've put others through in my past.

I don't understand why everyone is always so attached to looks these days. Or maybe it's me. Maybe my standards are too high.

When is it going to be my turn? When will I feel the butterflies again? It was October of last year that I finally felt that again for the first time in years. I held onto that as tight as I could, but it wasn't real. I had opened myself up to someone after years of riding solo, and he took advantage.

I remember praying every morning and every night that he would be my husband. I would beg that he be mine forever. Everything happens for a reason, and there's a reason we aren't together.

It's been so long since I've taken anyone home to meet my family. Originally my grandma would ask me if I was seeing anyone and if I said no she'd say, "good". Now when she asks if I'm seeing anyone and the answer is no, she says, "why?". It's like I can't please her. I know they worry I'm getting old. I worry I'm getting old.

Okay, I'm done dumping on you.

Hang tight.

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.
